By copyrighting his property as an artwork, he has prevented oil companies from drilling on it.

Peter Von Tiesenhausen has developed artworks all over his property in northern Alberta.  There’s a boat woven from sticks that is gradually being reclaimed by the land; there is a fence that he adds to each year of his life, and there are many “watching” trees, with eyes scored into their bark.

Oil interests pester him continually about drilling on his land.  His repeated rebuffing of their advances lead them to move toward arbitration.  They made it very clear that he only owned the top 6 inches of soil, and they had rights to anything underneath.  He then, off the top of his head, threatened them that he would sue damages if they disturbed his 6 inches, for the entire property is an artwork.  Any disturbance would compromise the work, and he would sue.

Immediately after that meeting, he called a lawyer (who is also an art collector) and asked if his intuitive threat would actually hold legally.  The lawyer visited, saw the scope of the work on the property, and wrote a document protecting the artwork.

The oil companies have kept their distance ever since.

This is but one example of Peter’s ability to negotiate quickly on his feet, and to find solutions that defy expectations.

I feel like this is really important.

“You only own the top six inches.” I own every inch from dust to Hell’s breath. Fight me.

holy crap it’s true

Lovely.

What a punch

This happened in Seattle. The nazi was shouting at people and telling folks of color to get out of the country, a crowd gathered after he chucked a banana at someone, anothe rperson told him off, then this guy punched him. No one called the cops. When he finally woke up he was asking for help getting up and the few who tried were told he’s a nazi and immediately dropped his ass. The cops finally had to come helpnpick his ass up. He refused to really tell the cops what happened as he took his armband off.

The story is fucking wild.

Make nazis scared

I don’t usually encourage violence, but do your civic duty and punch a nazi

No victim, no crime.

final version:

What makes me so mad is that snow queen is such a lovely tale and there was an evil mirror that shattered and froze the queen’s heart. So the first thing the newly evil queen does is PLUNGE THE KINGDOM INTO ETERNAL WINTER.

And the kid Anna is based off of is actually this sweet peasant girl who is rescuing her best friend whom everyone else thought drowned and whom no one cared for because mirror shards got in his eyes and he only saw beauty in snowflakes while everything else was just disgustingly foul to him. Except he didn’t drown because he was whisked away by the snow queen.

Like this girl gives her shoes to the river to find out he didn’t drown. Her hair ribbons to the birds to find out who took him. Works her hands raw to get to him and has to suffer a mental breakdown because she got SO FUCKING CLOSE to saving him and he won’t even look at her because he wants to solve this puzzle the snow queen gave him.

And then her sobbing wakes him up and he cries and washes the shards from his eyes and the fact that she saved him is enough to melt the snow queens heart and she brings spring back to the kingdom.

Wow Frozen really is some weak shit

Let’s not forget Gerda’s journey takes her along a long road that includes meetings with multiple women, many of them old, most of whom are not evil witches but wise women who aid her in her quest. She’s also at one point held captive by a bandit princess who swaps clothes with her and insists on sleeping in the same bed and routinely threatens her with a knife, but she eventually lets Gerda go with a magic talking reindeer she was also holding captive. The bandit princess cries because goddamn Gerda you’re so NICE and PRETTY and BRAVE and you clearly care about this stupid guy I GUESS and I can’t bear it just GO ok just GO and also you better fucking take care of her reindeer or I will CUT YOU.

The story is full of interesting complex women of many ages and magical talking animals and it’s a real shame we didn’t get an adaptation closer to the original ‘cause it’s really cool.

hey good news about the adaption:

There was a Soviet animated movie from 1957, that doesn’t brush over any of the things you just listed.

You get Gerda on her journey, meeting all of those people that both hinder her quest and help her, with older women from different regions of northern europe, as well as several princesses who aid her

also the art style and animation is absolutely gorgeous and I always feel like it’s a shame that older Soviet animation is barely recognized around the world

you can see the entire thing with english subtitles here

Someone should do a post on dressing in a way that looks ‘expensive’ but not breaking the bank

Wear black with gold/cream/silver detailing. Buy items that fit you well at the WIDEST POINT OF YOUR BODY and get them tailored to fit the rest. Stick to simple, clean lines and use accessories (detailing on a black/white purse for understated, a colorful purse for a bigger statement, , brightly coloured shoes if you go for fun shoes at all, funky jewellery) to add individuality and personality. Stick to neutral makeup in nude tones (+ false eyelashes), except for red/pink/maroon lipstick. Paint nails red for universal appeal, white or cream/beige for a bright neutral, black/grey/maroon for darker neutral. Keep them long enough that you can audibly tap them on objects, but not long enough that they interfere with mobility. Don’t touch your own cuticles unless you’re a wizard.

Don’t try go for red lips, red nails and red heels IMHO. Even if you rock Loubs, it just looks so extra- in a bad way. Never coordinate your purse, nails and your shoes around anyone in fashion- it looks good to regular folk but it comes across as slightly tacky, slightly lazy, and very unimaginative to anyone in fashion.

I’m still trying to figure out hair but…That basically covers it, I think.

You should know your skin’s undertone & what jewellery works for you. For example, I have a very golden undertone & silver looks really horrible on me.

Where to shop:

  1. Zara: I find Zara has a knack for tailoring their clothes to fit your size very well. They’re very clean, & often minimalist in nature. Shoes are affordable & amazing, especially if you have wide feet. If you still can’t afford things here full price wait for their end of season sales.
  2. ASOS: they are a one stop shop & you can easily compare prices between brands. The ASOS brand itself is pretty great. If  you’re a student, make sure you sign up so you can have a 24/7/365 10% discount on purchases. Their sales are phenomenal & they have a great customer service & shipping policy.
  3. H&M: I used to hate them but they’re upping their game. They’re very good for basics such as camis and long sleeve shirts.
  4. Lord & Taylor: They have a good selection of quality fashion jewellery that looks very decent. I swear by their earrings.
  5. Thrift stores: This is obvi hit or miss & takes a bit more time & a bit more knowledge about the kind of fabric youre looking for etc but one of my most complimented shift dresses was bought at Goodwill for $4 & I also have a lovely silk blouse I got for $3.
  6. Saks Off Fifth: This is Saks Fifth Avenue’s version of Nordstrom Rack. If you’re looking to invest in quality designer pieces but want them at a bargain, this is a reliable source.
  7. Poshmark: This is a site where people buy things from each other’s closets. I sell & buy from there. There was a beautiful asymmetric skirt that got sold out at H&M last year that I ended up finding here in my size. Basically thrifting online & everything is cheap.
  8. The RealReal: Online consignment store for designer goods. If you want to splurge on a designer bag or shoes without paying full price, this is a great place to get pre-loved items.

How to take care of your closet:

It doesn’t mean anything to buy quality pieces if you don’t take care of them. Looking after the things you own will keep your closet looking expensive.

  1. Find a cobbler: I swear by my cobbler. A good cobbler will take your raggedy ass worn out shoes & make them presentable again. I have a habit of wearing my shoes down to the ground but my cobbler fixes them right back up for cheap. Your cobbler will also more likely than not know how to take care of leather goods such as bags.
  2. Find a tailor: This is more expensive than a cobbler but 100% worth it. My tailor has taken some pieces of mine & turned them into gold.
  3. If it says dry clean, dry clean. Don’t ruin your clothes by cheaping out. You’ll thank yourself later.

Get a Nordstrom Debit card.  It shops directly from your bank account like your regular debit card but comes with $100 worth of free tailoring each year, even at Rack.

BREAKING: The FCC just voted to repeal net neutrality, meaning we’re all screwed. TV news shows were essentially silent about this for the three weeks leading up to the vote.

When I saw this post on my dash, it kept disappearing every time the site finished loading. It had nothing to do with my blacklist extension, all evidence of this post on my dash vanished. I had to go to the blog of the person I’m reblogging it from DIRECTLY.

If you can see this post at all, even if it’s for a split second, try and like it and reblog it! Don’t let this post be hidden!
