he gets on the news, he’s in a mask so no one knows who he is and. Howard is Pissed he thinks its so fucking rude for someone to “take” cap’s image like that so tony doesn’t tell anyone, but keeps doing it because it’s fun and he’s helping people and sure maybe this started as a way to spite howard but it very quickly becomes more than that.
he stops when he moves out to malibu because he is a fair distance from LA and captain America is really more of an east coast thing.
and then he’s iron man and he’s his own superhero but this time its less about the rush or helping people or giving howard the biggest middle finger ever but the desperate need to fix things and, he doesn’t forget about it, but it does feel… unimportant. kind of silly, even.
and then Steve, the real captain america, is defrosted, and for some reason, SHIELD shows him the old articles and rare footage of the vigilante cap. of Tony, even though no one knows it was him.
(well, coulson probably knows. He did find Tony’s old prototype shield, after all, but if he does, he hasn’t said anything.)
And, well, its not like tony ever pretended to be the real cap, he’s still way too short for that, doo differently built, and he expects a lot of reactions from Cap but pride? of this person he doesn’t even know is currently sitting beside him?
he’s not expecting that.
(Steve thinks it’s fantastic that this person took up the mantle as a genuine way to help people. He especially thinks it’s great because the fact that this guy running around in a home-made cap costume, punching muggers in the face and getting punched right back, so completly and visibly human, swearing when he gets hit a little too hard, made people a little less star-struck upon meeting him.)

And. It’s not like he’s keeping it a secret at this point either? Everyone already knows he’s iron man the fact that he was a small-time vigilante when he was a kid is going to surprise exactly no one.
But he also doesn’t tell anyone. Just kinda goes “oh hey peggy almost certainly knew, coulson probably knows and so does fury, they probably told Steve) except. No, steve does not know.
Also the vigilante thing? Almost no one outside of Boston knew about it. It was a Boston Thing. The only reason howard, back in New York knew, is because he’s more than a little obsessed with all things captain America.
So when Steve joins the team? Oh yeah he’s gonna dig out his box of old stuff because hey, that outfit shield made him? It sucks. Tony’s certainly isn’t going to fit steve but hey, he can still use the design/materials, and the magnetic shield recaller doesn’t really need any adjustments to fit.
(Of course, tony had a lot more tech than that, like bracers so he didn’t break his hand punching somthing stronger than he was, maybe some sort of rudementry HUD? But Steve doesn’t really need any of that)

And sure, this is a fun AU. It’s not that angsty yet. But, Tony’s still going out to fight criminals and he’s still extremely, painfully, human. He’s gonna get hurt. He’s gonna get hurt a lot.
And, maybe the reason no one figures it out is because he’s not exactly the most loved person on campus. He gets beat up a lot even without seeking out fights. He comes back with a black eye and bruised ribs? Rhodey’s gonna sigh and help him out but he’s not gonna ask because unfortunately, this is normal.
(The larger wounds, tony takes care of himself. The one time, before he upgraded the costume, someone pulled a knife and managed to open a slice down his arm, he stitched himself and told everyone who asked it was an accident with some sheet metal.)

Attention fanfic writers: If you use Google Docs to write/store/back-up your fics, you might want to download anything you don’t already have backed up elsewhere. Google is apparently invading and deleting people’s personal drive content thanks to the FOSTA/SESTA bill that recently passed through Congress. Essentially, it criminalizes ANY platform where sexual content could be placed.
It may also be worth making sure you have offline back-ups of any and all fics you have posted here on Tumblr and on AO3, in case Yahoo get antsy (they’ve been cracking down on the porn bot tumblrs already) and OTW face a legal challenge to take down AO3. I’m hoping that’s not the case – but I was on LiveJournal during Strikethrough in 2007 and I remember the way that whole communities as well as individual LJ accounts were deleted and purged; it was instrumental in the founding of AO3 in the first place. That was a widespread purge of fanfic writers and communities, LGBT+ communities and writers and more, all due to legal threats that SixApart, the company that owned and hosted LiveJournal, received due to allegedly hosting paedophile content. After Strikethrough was over and LJ admitted they’d gone OTT, there were a number of communities and accounts that didn’t get reinstated. I’ve always been quite careful not to have my Tumblr flagged up as NSFW in part because of that. Given the number of Facebook accounts that get temporary or permanent suspensions thanks to malicious false reports, I have very little confidence that Tumblr’s staff won’t make mistakes.
I’m not sure what this means for collaborative fics; but Google Docs probably aren’t a safe platform for that anymore.
If this is news to anyone else, listen, whatever happens in the world of politics, backing up your stuff is always a good and necessary thing. Do it and do it often. Be wise. Nothing is certain. Nothing is stable. Even data decays. In a world of rapidly-decreasing hard copies, you must perform backups. It’s not paranoia, it’s prevention.

Creators should beware of google for more than just their privacy policies and any “decency” enforcement. Pay attention to the terms of service. They state:
“When you upload, submit, store, send or receive content to or through our Services, you give Google (and those we work with) a worldwide license to use, host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works (such as those resulting from translations, adaptations or other changes we make so that your content works better with our Services), communicate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute such content. The rights you grant in this license are for the limited purpose of operating, promoting, and improving our Services, and to develop new ones. This license continues even if you stop using our Services (for example, for a business listing you have added to Google Maps).” [emphasis mine]

I feel like a jerk for saying this, but as someone who’s had sites (dedicated to stories and poetry, fwiw) taken down without warning for “obscenity” before in various purges about various things, I find myself wondering what people expected.
Fandom people who like policing content: this is why we don’t. It’s not because we love pedophiles (or think there are no iffy things about sex work, or…) It’s because this is what happens. Whole swaths of stuff gets deleted, and there really isn’t much thought put into what that is.
You might be happy that someone’s underage fic goes bye bye… but your deeply personal fic about Csa you survived is likely to go too.
From the point of view of an overworked or disgusted censor (or an automated one), they’re the same.

–Also tho,re: the google terms of service, I’m pretty sure that’s just the standard disclaimer EVery online service has to use in order to function? it’s not saying they own your stuff, they’re saying they have the right to display/translate/provide links to the stuff you’re hosting on their site– because… that’s what the platform is literally designed to do. There was a similar scare going around about DeviantArt’s ToS that amounted to the same thing.

My mom just took my dog to the vet
She(my dog) was(still is?) having a seizure
Last month we took my dog to the vet and they told us she had developed diabetes, they told us it was caused by the food she was eating, purina beneful.
They told us that there have been many many many reports of Beneful has been causing diabetes, seizures, and even death in dogs.
We had no idea
We immediately switched her food and put her on a special diet plan for her diabetes, unfortunately the effects were already permeate.
Today at 11:20 my mom woke me up crying, I helped her carry my dog to the car (while she was still having a seizure) and watched her drive away red faced and still crying.
Please please PLEASE if you are feeding your pets Purina beneful PLEASE switch their food ASAP

You can still help by calling your senators and representatives. We just need ONE MORE PERSON on our side to get the senate portion of Congress to overrule the FCC’s decision to kill net neutrality. The battle for the net won’t end there, but it’s a start. Go to battleforthenet to find out who your reps are and where they stand, and CONTACT THEM.
Twenty-three states are also suing the FCC for this. I haven’t looked into it yet, but I assume big businesses like Google and Amazon are as well. Nevertheless, we can’t rely on lengthy lawsuits alone. The changes to your internet start in less than two months. We don’t have a whole lot of time.
Blow this up. Contact your reps. Please, do something! We HAVE to get the decision overruled!
USPS is largest employer of veterans. Figures Republicans are attacking the vets.
The US Postal Service’s forced financial crisis
In 2006 – Republicans in Congress passed a poison pill piece of legislation forcing the Post Office to pre-fund retiree health benefits 75 years out into the future – basically funding benefits for future employees who aren’t even born yet. The Postal Service has to do this by giving the Treasury $5.5 billion every single year. That’s a requirement that no business, or any government agency has ever had to comply with. And it’s the reason why the Post Office is going bankrupt today and looking into closing down post offices, laying off workers, and cutting down delivery service.
So why is all this happening? Because the Postal Service employs hundreds of thousands of unionized workers – where as private mail carriers like UPS and Fed Ex do not. Republicans – in their non-stop war on labor – realized that they could hurt unions by bankrupting the Postal Service. That’s what they did in 2006, and their plan is working today.
Just an FYI, this is how much more expensive shopping online will be if USPS goes away. For small and lightweight packages like t-shirts, USPS wins hands down.

The cost difference between them is no joke- and we’ve had a lot of increases to USPS’s shipping in the last few years as well, so even with those increases it’s less than half the cost of what FedEx would charge you to send the same object the same distance. Now imagine if private shipping was the only option; how much would it cost then?
Right now it costs me about $3 (before envelopes, etc) to ship the average order in the US. If I use UPS or FedEx? That number literally triples. Some orders can be shipped for under a dollar with USPS. Not so with private shippers.

About two years ago I started a new creator owned project. It began as a spin-off of Princeless, but the reality is this – Raven The Pirate Princess is its own thing altogether. I knew this from the first issue and if you’ve been reading, so have you.
Sure, the first few issues of Raven: Pirate Princess had that heroic lady feminist banter for which Princeless has become known both among its fans and detractors. I mean, Raven had this scene:

It’s about Ximena, a girl who was held captive for years by a pirate king who pretended to be her liberator. Who fell in love with the pirate’s daughter, only to be left behind by that father when she outlived her value.
About Sunshine, the thief that chose the wrong target and ended up falling in love with a woman already hopelessly in love with somebody else.
It’s about Katie, the bisexual second in command who’s motivated by honor…and occasionally beating the snot out of a dude or two

But here’s the thing: this comic is failing. It has a very dedicated and exuberant but at this point SMALL fanbase. Today I had a hard conversation with Action Lab about the reality of the numbers on this book versus what it costs to produce this book and, suffice it to say, Action Lab isn’t ready to cancel the book, but they aren’t ready to greenlight year 3 either. After Year 2 #13, Raven is set to go on the shelf until numbers can support continuing it.
This is where I need your help
If you care about this book full of queer pirate ladies and you want it to continue, we need to find a way to spread the word about it. We don’t need to sell single issues (it would be nice) but ultimately we need the trades sales that back up the continuation of this big YA Pirate/Revenge/Adventure/Romance thing.
