How To Actually Fight For Net Neutrality

There’s a lot of big, wordy articles going around tumblr right now, and they’re all great. But I wanted to make a mastpost of sorts of all the actions you can take and sites/bots that are here to help.

battleforthenet – The main hub for all things net neutrality. Fill out a form in seconds to e-mail your rep, or enter your phone number and a prerecorded message will call you, tell you exactly what to do and provide a script before connecting you with your representative. You can also set up a daily call.

Verizon Protests – Protests are happening at Verizon stores across the country on Dec 14th.

5 calls – This site is my favorite for calls. They provide a script and directions for calling the FCC, senators, and local state rep.

Resistbot – A phenominal service for those who cannot call, this bot will contact your rep on your behalf. However, every time I try to use it, they are busy.

Many of you are hitting the same roadblock I am: Mailboxes are full. So what do we do at that point? We send letters. Go to WhoIsMyRepresentative.com and enter your zip code to find addresses for your senators and house reps. You can use the phone script from the sites above, or compose your own note, or simply write “I am your constituent and I want you to fight to keep net neutrality.”

I know a lot of this is very overwhelming and hopefully this makes things easy and straightforward. You can send an e-mail, make 4 phone calls, and write a letter in less than 10 minutes. Please take the time to do so.

Important: Please don’t use scripts when you send letters and messages. If the recipients receive the same message with the same wording over and over again, they will basically treat it as spam and ignore it.

DO NOT USE RESISTBOT ANYMOES

The FCC is actively ignoring all emails and calls from bots; you have to either email or call them yourself for your efforts to matter!

the resistbot twitter has debunked this rumor!!

this isnt true, and resistbot is used to contact your reps not the fcc. i’ve gotten replies from my reps after using resistbot as well. do not spread false information !!

I wasn’t asked to a single dance in high school and didn’t have a serious romantic relationship until I was 22. And like, yeah that shit hurt when I was younger. I had a lot of fears that I was unlovable and that I didn’t deserve to be happy. And every time I would try to talk to anyone about it, the conversation became, “you’ll find someone”, when it should have been, “you don’t need a relationship or a date, you’re lovable & complete & beautiful on your own”.

So yeah, please normalize young people not dating, and please stop shaming them for it. There’s more to life than romance, despite what the media wants us to think.

I WILL BE CENSORED AFTER DEC 14TH

Good, I’ve got your attention. I’ve heard about this net neutrality bullshit returning. I fought it when it started popping up a few years ago, and I’m going to fight it again. Guys, it’s BACK AGAIN and even worse theres a big chance it will END UP PASSING!

https://www.battleforthenet.com/#bftn-action-form

This could literally mean a shit ton of you wont be able to see me anymore if your provider decides that they want to regulate/censor, sayyy overly sexual content. You’ll also have to pay extra money to even use Tumblr!

https://www.battleforthenet.com/#bftn-action-form

Please guys, we defeated this shit once, we can do it again. They’re trying to do it now while people are distracted by the holidays and fucking Justice League. As of today, it seems as though there have only been 266,810 calls made to Congress. This is NOT good enough!! MILLIONS of people use the net, and if each one of them took 60 seconds to call and protect it, holy balls do you KNOW how much of a difference that would make??? But noooo, you’re busy streaming an ecchi anime that wont be available to you soon!!!!!

Heres a direct link to make a difference (theres also links to other sites of the same nature on here), and yes, YOU can make a fucking difference because this is YOUR internet at stake hereIf you’re not going to make the call, share this and maybe SOMEONE fucking will!! This is important as shit and we cant afford to lose. Dec 14th is the deadline.

I know this doesn’t sound important but….

The reason they started this again is because… the timing.

Coincidence? I think NOT.

Everyone is so obsessed with something else, The FCC are manipulating us.

I seriously don’t want to give up Tumblr and YouTube all together because of this crap..

😥

They’re deleting it every 20 hours too, don’t stop rebloging this!

The FCC will soon vote to kill net neutrality. But Congress can stop them if they hear from constituents now.

Yesterday afternoon the House subcommittee that provides Congressional oversight for the FCC held an important hearing about the agency’s current plans, including current Chairman (and former Verizon lawyer) Ajit Pai’s move to gut Title II net neutrality protections that prevent ISPs from controlling what we do online with throttling, censorship, and extra fees.

With Capitol Hill’s attention now on the FCC, and Pai’s final plan to gut net neutrality protections expected in the coming weeks, it’s extra important that Congress gets flooded with phone calls from Internet users telling them to stand up and defend the open Internet.

We’re also hearing there are key members of Congress considering whether to step in and force Pai to slow down. This means best chance to stop the FCC from breaking the fundamental principle that makes the Internet awesome is to pound Congress with phone calls right now.

You can call your reps easily with just one click here: battleforthenet.com

You’ll see a script on your screen, or you can say something like this:

“I support Title Two net neutrality rules and I urge you to oppose the FCC’s plan to repeal them. Specifically, I’d like you to contact the FCC Chairman and demand he abandon his current plan.”

You can also just call this number directly and enter your zipcode to get connected to your legislators: 202-930-8550.

If you run a website, blog, tumblr, or forum, help spread the word by putting up a sticky post, or use one of these widgets, ads, or banners: https://www.battleforthenet.com/#join

Ajit Pai is expected to circulate the text of his rule killing net neutrality on November 22, the day before Thanksgiving. Once that happens, it will move to a vote at the FCC’s open meeting in December, and it will become much much harder to stop him.

It’s clear that the FCC remains set on killing net neutrality. But Congress can stop the FCC from gutting the rules that keep the web open, affordable, and awesome.

Idgaf if this isn’t my theme we’re losing this fight tell your family tell your friends l e t ‘ s g o

I can’t stress enough how important this is. I rarely deviate from my surreal meme theme but this is something that can’t be ignored. This decision will affect the whole world!

DON’T USE BOTS TO FIGHT FOR NET NEUTRALITY!

eargod:

The FCC have already disregarded millions of emails in suspect of sent by fake bot accounts. If you want to fight, you need to call or message the FCC and your

Senators

yourself!

Ajit Pai – Ajit.Pai@fcc.gov

202-518-7399

Mike O’Rielly – Mike.ORielly@fcc.gov

301-657-9092

 Brendan Carr – Brendan.Carr@fcc.gov

202-719-7305

Look up and contact your Senators and inform them why you don’t want Net Neutrality repealed.

And to anyone OUTSIDE the US, Tell your US friends and followers to fight this, but DON’T get involved yourself! They won’t listen to anyone who’s not a US citizen.

We have until DECEMBER 14TH, 2017 before the final vote goes through!

🚨🚨🚨

fullhalalalchemist:

today is Nov. 15. the FCC, under chairman Ajit Pai, will not listen to the public despite millions of comments in support of net neutrality. They are going to try their hardest to kill net neutrality, which in turn will kill the internet, which in turn will help eradicate democracy. it won’t just affect Americans, it has the potential to affect the entire internet, something we ALL use daily. you can bet your ass other countries will see america doing this, and use it as an excuse to do it in their own countries.

this is what buying a plan without net neutrality looks like there:

you have to pay MORE for features you’re already guaranteed to have under net neutrality. and in america, you already know how expensive everything is.

democrats AND republicans both want net neutrality. advocacy groups in touch with congress have said that if your members of congress receive calls from you, they are more encouraged and more likely to take action to stop Pai’s plan to gut net neutrality. after Nov. 22, it will be MUCH HARDER to convince your member of congress.

please, call them. call them daily.

Guys, please be careful to vet that what you choose to signal boost is actually accurate. I’m seeing a lot of well-intentioned posts today about Net Neutrality that are likely to do just as much harm as good due to misinformation in them.

For instance, we are not all suddenly shouting that the sky is falling because the FCC has PASSED the bill abolishing Net Neutrality and the changes are to be put in place some time this month. As claimed by one post I just saw with over 5,000 notes already. This is simply, unequivocally NOT true, and it can actually get in the way of the call to action that very post made, asking people to call and email their congressmen, because a lot of people who see that might think “what’s the point, if its already passed?”

It hasn’t. Chairman Ajit Pai of the FCC unveiled in April his proposed plan to strike back the Net Neutrality regulations Obama’s administration passed in 2015, and which have since 2015 been upheld by the courts in the face of Republican opposition’s attempts to claim they overreached. What has people shouting the sky is falling NOW is because yesterday (November 21st) is when the date of the official vote on this proposed plan was announced. That date is December 14th.

Which means there IS still time to affect the outcome of the vote. People are pessimistic about the chances of this vote because the FCC board is held by a Republican majority at the moment, but make the passing of this bill seem toxic enough to other Republican interests and there is still a chance to keep it from passing.

Which is still a hell of a lot better than assuming the bill has already passed and that there’s really no point.

We have until December 14th to kick up enough of a fuss that the Republicans on the FCC board think twice about voting for this bill. And even after that, there are still legal recourses. The courts have refused to uphold other bills Trump’s administration has attempted to pass as overreaching, unconstitutional, and/or in opposition of the true will of the people – just as the Republicans attempted to do back in 2015 when the FCC under Obama passed the Net Neutrality laws in the first place.

This does not mean be complacent. This does not mean assume enough other people will raise enough of a fuss without adding your voice to the mix. It simply means THERE IS STILL TIME TO ACT. The sky may be falling, but until it finishes falling, there’s still a chance to catch it instead.

We have until December 14th to kick up enough of a fuss that the Republicans on the FCC board think twice about voting for this bill.

there IS still time to affect the outcome of the vote.
