tumblr is massively wrong about the Amazon strike and there are a few key people trying to get the right information out and y’all are too focused on sticking it to Amazon to bother getting it right. @brainstatic started noticing yesterday that the dates people were posting were funky and @janothar started posting that even the Spanish strike isn’t starting on the 10th and yet y’all are still spreading this like it’s fact. I honestly have not seen a damn thing about the strike literally ANYWHERE but tumbr so I decided to use our good friend google and here’s what I’ve found.

On July 10, 2018, Reuters reported that the Spanish workers will participate in a 3 day strike starting on July 16. NOT July 10. The strike is also, according to this article, NOT across all of Spain or all of the EU but only at ONE location – the San Fernando warehouse. It is already the second walk out this warehouse is doing this year, but y’all weren’t even aware of the first one and now are misrepresenting this one. EuroWeekly News stated the same thing as Reuters.

As of this morning (July 11, 2018)), the Independent is reporting that activists are asking consumers not to participate in Prime Day sales to support striking workers. Not asking for a week-long boycott, just a boycott of Prime Day. The Independent also confirms Reuters’ reports that the strike is ONLY 1000 Spanish workers – it does not start on the 10th and it is not an international strike.

There are a handful of other sites reporting that the strike started on the 10th and that other EU countries are participating; however, as @brainstatic pointed out already, these all link back to the same .info site that is not reliable and is not backed by reliable news sources (unlike Reuters, which is a reliable news source). The .info site is also only a CALL to strike – it is NOT a statement of that anywhere other than Spain is striking. The Observer article that links to the .info site above also literally uses tumblr’s “the boycott starts on the 10th” as a source for the boycott starting on the 10th… meaning that TUMBLR started those rumors, not the Observer article, and there is no reliable source for the boycott starting on the 10th other than the fact that y’all made that shit up and some online news source picked it up and ran with it. You can’t use an article that sites you as the source as a source for your bullshit. Got it?

If you want to support the striking workers, know when they are striking and what they want from you. Know what the actual activists involved are calling for. Know when and where the strike is taking place. As of right now, the strike is ONLY in Spain, it is 3 days long starting on the 16th, and it is ONLY focused around Prime Day. It did not start yesterday on the 10th. It is primarily about raising wages and other similar issues in Spanish factories, which are unionized already. It is not about people dying in American Amazon factories. Having half-assed, half-researched boycotts here and there that do not correspond to the strikes and are not well coordinated is not going to make a point. Having an organized, well-informed, large movement is what gets your point across. So stop what you’ve been doing and do this right. Boycott Prime Day and stop spreading misinformation.

Everything I could find corroborated this information, but also… Jesus, can I just say how incredibly off-putting the holier-than-thou tone so popular with these correction posts are? Shit like “y’all are too focused on sticking it to Amazon to ‘bother’ getting it right” and acting like people are deliberately spreading misinformation because they’re malicious or don’t care or whatever is just OP being an asshole, because the culture on here is geared less toward informing people and more towards telling people of in entertaining ways.

OP is annoyed, I get that. Checking sources is important and Tumblr is infamously bad at spreading misinformation. But OP didn’t have to be a jackass about it. But it gives them that morally superior high, so… ok I guess.

Frankly, I think the added awareness about the shit that American and British workers go through at these hellish warehouses can do nothing but good.

THANK YOU. I was reading this and was like, being factually correct is all nice and well, but how is boycotting Amazon internationally and for longer a bad thing, especially given how they treat their workers? Go ahead and stick it to Amazon everyone.

I can hazard a guess as to that actually! Coinciding the boycott with the actual strike demonstrates a very decisive and clear connection TO the strike. It gives the strike more weight. It’s “you’re losing money because of this strike specifically” rather than “workers happen to strike vaguely in the middle of a downswing in sales”. Even if they KNOW damn well that the boycott is in solidarity for the strike, if the dates don’t coincide, they can say “oh that’s not really the reason, your strike is meaningless, your strike happened after this boycott, clearly unrelated”. Whereas if the dates coincide exactly, they have no excuses. It sends a strong, clear message.

Which is how OP could have chosen to explain it, but didn’t. And maybe I’m wrong about the reason, but this seems logical. This IS just a guess though, so you know… grain of salt with what I say here.

Woah

well he really should have worn more protective clothing if he didn’t want that to happen
sounds to me like he was asking for it

Are we really sure he was actually shot and decapitated? Idk, sounds like something he would’ve made up. Guys make false decapitation accusations all the time, you know.

If he didn’t want to be decapitated, he shouldn’t have worn a shirt that showed off his neck

I mean, not all woman decapitate people. I’m not like that.

Was he alone? He shouldn’t have been alone. I mean what was he expecting?

It obviously wasn’t a legitimate decapitation, if it was the body has ways of shutting it down.

He probably enjoyed being shot. Most men don’t like to admit they actually enjoy being shot and having their head cut off.

Obviously. If he didn’t like it, he wouldn’t have let her shoot him 10 times. He would’ve stopped her. Basic logic.

A lesson to learn, kids. Always be on guard by wearing a bulletproof vest.

He shouldn’t have run into her bullets. Ten times.

I heard he’d been at a bar before it happened, so he probably just got drunk and tripped over the blade that decapitated him. Men really need to be more careful when they drink or these things are bound to happen. :/

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS CREAM. TAKE A GOOD LONG LOOK.

MEMORIZE THE PACKAGING SO YOU MAKE SURE YOU NEVER BUY THIS CREAM FOR YOURSELF OR ANYONE YOU LOVE.

This post is about vaginas. My vagina in particular. I get yeast infections pretty regularly, and until recently I was able to afford to see a doctor who could prescribe me fluconazole.

Fluconazole, a drug also known by the brand name Diflucan, is a small pink pill. You take two pills a few days apart from each other to restore balance and harmony to your bountiful folds. I’ve never ever had a bad side effect from taking this pill.

Cut to November 2016. I’m a recent college grad without reliable health care coverage in the process of finding a job. And I’m dealing with a yeast infection. Before I moved out of state, my previous doctor told me about Miconazole. She said it was as effective as the pill and hallelujah, it’s over the counter! I decided to purchase the cream pictured above. This treatment only lasted 3 days, a convenient time frame for my schedule.

The application process was a little messy, and some of the cream came in contact with my vulva and labia. Within 5 minutes every piece of skin that had come in contact with the cream, excluding my hands, was on fire. I wanted to scream it was so painful. I began frantically searching for what I should do online.

I found a whole forum of people on drugs.com who had experienced something similar. These comments saved me, and these were just on the first page. There were 33 pages total, the earliest dated July 2009.

I was writhing in pain at 2AM when I found this forum (which I found by searching “my vagina burn itch hurts after miconazole” on Google). As soon as I read these comments I threw the devil cream directly into the trash and jumped in the shower. I didn’t feel any actual relief until I reached in and scraped the cream out of me. I paid $17 plus tax on this bullshit, but I could have just as easily ripped up my money or paid someone to not hurt me.

The moral of the story is that vaginal health care is is completely fucked up because we don’t have access to an over the counter cure for yeast infections that is safe for our bodies and also YOU SHOULD NEVER BUY THIS CREAM EVER.

Reblog to save a vagina.

Okay so I used to get yeast infections every month after my period ‘cause my pH levels were fucked up or something (idk that’s what my doctor said) and I actually used to take this stuff and it was fine. Then a couple years down the road I had a yeast infection for the first time in ages and I used this again and it burned so bad I had to sit in the bath and like physically dig it out of my vagina

AND THEN I LEARNED THAT IT’S BECAUSE I DIDN’T HAVE A YEAST INFECTION. I had a bacterial infection, which is honestly pretty much identical to a yeast infection depending on the severity. The only difference is that IF YOU HAVE A BACTERIAL INFECTION AND TRY TO USE YEAST INFECTION MEDICATION IT WILL HURT

But it’s not actually the medication’s fault. The medication DOES do what it’s supposed to do, provided you’re actually suffering from a yeast infection. Chances are though that you and every one who commented on this did, in fact, have bacterial infections instead.

FORTUNATELY they also make over the counter tests so you can know if you need to call your doctor or just grab some yeast medicine off the shelf. Next time if you aren’t sure, pee on a stick and save yourself a world of fucking pain

AMEN.

It’s unfortunate that I’m 27 and never knew that last bit of information. The world of vaginal health is so obscure and inaccessible.

Reblogging because I too once found out the hard way that I had a bacterial & not yeast infection. 😑

I, too, once set my vagina aflame with miconazole. I didn’t know it was because of a bacterial infection. Reblogging to save a vag.

Reblogging to save a vag.

It’s almost like the shame and stigma thar surrounds vaginas is a danger to the health and well being of people who have vaginas.

Damn y’all #saveavag

Fuck save a vag one reblog at a time

Write how someone finally snapped while working in retail and how they became the worlds greatest villain.

Saki From Retail, as she calls herself, became  the world’s greatest villain.

Not because she ever ruled the world, or shrank the moon, or defeated every hero in her path. She’s still sorta new to this, even if she’s taking to it really well. But she’s well known as the world’s greatest villain… to work for.

Henchmen and henchwomen all over the world flock to her once news got out she wasn’t executing them for failures, that they got full benefits, dental, and a pretty fair cut of the profits. Working hours were really flexible, and even the more ridiculous demands were given a much more reasonable timeframe – even the top shark tank maker in the business has named her his favorite customer, because she actually understands it takes time to wrangle the best sharks, and to make those things shark-proof, and that sometimes the sharks just aren’t in the mood at the moment.  She talks to her people like, well, people, even the janitors (especially Rodney, the guy who deals with radioactive waste, also one of the best in the business).

It’s not all roses, and she does lose her temper, but she’s still never executed a henchperson out of rage. She got betrayed once and flared up, interrogated him until she found out that his family was being threatened – she got the crew, rounded up the heroes threatening his family, let him push the button on the shark tank, and compensated him and his family for the trouble. That news got out, and now she’s got practically all of the henchpeople community rooting for her.

Of course, that sorta miffed the rest of the villains, and that’s how she got taken down, villains and heroes working together to take care of a shared inconvenience. They had her in the cell for about 2 days and then she got sprung out – by the whole friggin’ prison. Word is she’s already got her empire back up and running.

Speaking of which, there’s an opening if you want in.

Is um. Is there a listing on Indeed or does she have an application form on her own website or

Okay. This seems pretty insane if you don’t know what the existing state of terminally ill patients’ options is. So let’s go over that.

Terminally ill patients can sign up to be part of pre FDA approval trials for treatments which might potentially cure them. As these treatments are experimental, untested, not guaranteed to get results, and intended to provide profit to the medical provider in the long run, patients cannot be charged for these experimental treatments. As it should be. It’d be pretty unethical to get people to pay you to be your guinea pig for treatments which may not even help them.

This “right to try” law changes that. It makes it legal for terminally ill patients to be charged for experimental treatments. Furthermore, it removes FDA testing restrictions from the process. Currently a company which tries an ‘experimental’ treatment they know won’t work will get the hammer dropped on them by the FDA. But under this new process, medical providers would be legally allowed to provide ‘treatments’ they know won’t work, without oversight. This would legalize medical predation on terminally ill patients.

Labeling this bill ‘right to try’ makes it seem like terminally ill patients aren’t allowed to seek out experimental treatments right now. But they are! All this bill does is make a terminally ill patients more financially burdened and more vulnerable to predation.

That’s why the Democrats blocked it.

Thank you for explaining it

not giving your money to a business that’s currently striking is literally an essential part of a strike.

Amazon brings in over 34 BILLION dollars every day. Even a one-day boycott could mean massive leverage for the strikers – especially if the boycott coincided with one of the most profitable days Amazon expected to have all year, as this one does.

Do not visit Amazon.com on 10 July 2018 (or July 15-16 in the US)!

While we’re talking about effective boycotting, boycotting Amazon means more than boycotting Amazon, because Amazon has subsidiaries that also help it make money. If you’re going to boycott Amazon, you also need to boycott the following subsidiaries:

  • AWS Elemental
  • AbeBooks
  • Alexa Internet
  • Audible
  • Blink Home
  • Brilliance Audio
  • ComiXology
  • CreateSpace
  • Diapers.com
  • Double Helix Games
  • Evi
  • Fabric.com
  • GoodReads
  • IMDb
  • Junglee
  • Mobipocket
  • Ring
  • Shelfari
  • Shopbop
  • Souq.com
  • TenMarks Education, Inc.
  • Twitch
  • Whole Foods Market
  • Woot
  • Zappos

A boycott is not effective unless you attack it on all fronts. This is why boycotting things like McDonalds or Coca Cola are so ineffective– they have so many subsidiaries and supporting businesses that they can afford a frontal hit and still make money from its “family” companies.

If you truly want to help this boycott, make sure to boycott Amazon and its subsidiaries.

Alliance {Robb Stark x Targaryen!Reader}

thenoblehouseofdayne:

@future-ll-evans requested: “What about a Targaryen!Reader and Robb Stark? Early ally? Dany sends her sister and Barristan (because he ain’t dead to me) secretly to gain the northern allies.”

Warnings: sexual content, mentions of pre-marital sex?

(Sorry for the wait! Summer vacation is quite hectic for me, and my update scedule is going to be patchy for the rest of July, but to tide you over, here’s a Robb Stark!)

You had quite a few nightmares as a child. Not about the Rebellion, no, you were too young to remember that, but other dangers from Esos stuck in your mind clearly, and served as fuel for some night terrors. Your brother Viserys’ cruel hand, an old beggar snarling at you when you’d reached for the coins he’d dropped, loud and raucous storms that seemed to shake your bed.

None of it compared to waking up knowing you had to leave your sister and set sail for Westeros, possibly to be killed or to never return.

You ate in silence, and met Ser Barristan down by the docks, accompanied by your sister, who’d come to see you off. You exchanged an embrace, she wished you safe travels and walked back to her palace discreetly.

You had to take a small fishing boat, to avoid suspicion from passing ships or employees at the docks. Your sister had sent ahead letters to respectable families, alerting them of your incoming arrival. You planned to sail to the Bite, and work your way North, they had seceded from the Crown, and could benefit from a strong alliance- regardless of what side they had taken in the Rebellion.

After meeting with Lysa Arryn, and traveling through the Neck, you arrived at Winterfell, hoping to convince the King of the North to bend the knee to your sister, or at least agree not to take up arms against her. From what you’d been told by other nobles, if Robb Stark agreed to an alliance, the other Northern houses would fall in line.

Ser Barristan at your side, you approached the gates of the great fortress, heavy snow pummeling your personage as a blizzard raged. A small brigade rushed to receive you, offering to help you down from your horse and tend to your luggage. You were quickly ushered inside and seated beside a fire, and a few minutes later, the King of the North arrived to greet you.

Concern was immediately apparent as you rose to meet him, and he insisted you remained by the fire, eyeing your bluing skin and silently wondering if you’d catch cold. “I apologize for the lack of preparation, we didn’t think you would brave the blizzard, and frankly, I’m not sure you should have.”

You laughed a little quietly, glad the feeling was returning to the tips of your fingers. “I suppose I underestimated just how severe the storm would be, I am not quite used to this Winter business, you Northerns must wear such heavy cloaks.” You griped, pawing at your blue cloak which seemed to disappear under a heavy wind.

He chuckled in return, taking a seat beside you on the fur throw. There was a beat of silence between you too as the conversation settled, until eventually, he spoke. “What is it like? Out East, I mean.”

You thought for a second. “I haven’t really been anywhere else, we left Westeros when I was small, and I don’t remember it well. But, it’s warm. I’ve seen a lot of the coast in our travels, and the water seems a little bluer there.” You gave a fond and homesick smile, watching the flames flicker in the hearth. “There’s a lot more sand.” You offered, a bit dismissively. You glanced over, examining his features fully for the first time, begrudgingly impressed by the strong cut of his jaw.

Robb pretended not to notice you staring, and thought on how to continue the conversation. “Your name, it’s Y/N, correct?”

You gave a nod, inwardly pleased that he hadn’t pronounced it incorrectly like other northerner’s had. Something about their accent made Valyrian sound… oddly forced rather than the smooth transition of syllables- as you’d been taught. “Would you prefer Robb, or Lord Stark?” You responded, not wishing to offend.

He thought for a moment. “Robb.” He said, with decision. “I don’t think I’m quite ready for Lord Stark.”

You smiled in return, and turned back to the fire.

Your quill touched the parchment lovingly as you penned your sister’s name, before dipping your quill back in the ink, ignoring the presence reading over your shoulder.

Daenerys,

Thus far, my travels have been pleasant. I’ve been received well at all the castles I’ve visited, and the nobles have been nothing short of polite, in particular-

His lips pressed a soft kiss to the junction of your neck and shoulder, as he brushed your hair back to better access the skin.

You attempted to ignore his teasing and continued to write.

-in particular, the Starks have been most gracious hosts and agreed to hold Ser Barristan and I a few more weeks until the weather settles. The winters this far North are brutal, I’ve never seen so much snow in my life! But, the castle is warm and-

He bit down quickly, before soothing the area with a brush of his tongue, continuing on a trail up your neck. “Take a break.” He murmured.

You attempted to brush him off again. “I have to finish this-”

His hand moved to the straps of your slip, slowly removing the left and then the right and taking your exposed breasts in his hands. “She can wait a few minutes.”

You dropped the quill and began to move from the chair, when he swept you off your feet and tossed you onto the bed, a wolfish grin on his face. It seemed as though he’d been only a hair away from ravaging you anyways, and was simply waiting for you to deliver yourself to him.

Daenerys had been particularly surprised to hear of your courtship, and more so, your plan to wed, but supported you none the less. Strategically, the move was perfect, and if he truly made you happy, there was no downside. She urged you to elope privately, for her presence was still not fully welcome in Westeros, and her army built slowly as she conquered more and more slaving cities, but supported your wishes to marry as soon as you could.

As her ascension picked up steam, the Lannisters made moves to counter her, unknowing that the seeds of her revolt had already been planted in Westeros, and that the North already planned to rally behind her when the time came.

The war was brewing, but in your marital bed, your alliances grew only stronger.

10 July 2018

thatdiabolicalfeminist:

Reminder: Do not buy from Amazon or even open the website between 10-17 July 2018, in solidarity with the transnational strike.

Amazon workers in Spain have called for a transnational strike because Amazon has been avoiding accountability for its labour rights violations by merely shifting the work (and the human rights abuses Amazon inflicts on their workers) to non-striking countries, each time a strike occurs. If there is widespread striking transnationally, Amazon will have no choice but to recognize the strikers’ demands in order to keep their facilities functioning.

Our job as allies is to support the strike by avoiding using the Amazon website or purchasing anything from Amazon for as long as the strike continues. A mass boycott of the site, coinciding with the strike, will strengthen the workers’ bargaining position and could be crucial to Amazon workers gaining back basic rights in a variety of countries.
