So let me, let me out. I can’t love you anymore. Let me, let me out. I don’t love you like before

“No,
I know you don’t mean that”.
He marched over to you, putting his hand
over your heart. “You love me, I know you do. I can feel it in your
heart”.

“I don’t, not anymore. I’m so sorry”. Walking away, Mac’s
fingertips fell from your grasp. You said your forced goodbye, there was no strength left to turn
around. Even if there was you couldn’t bear to see the pain you caused in his eyes.

24 Hours Earlier

“Okay, I officially need like 10 hours of solid sleep”. Laughing, the best you could as exhaustion continued to grow stronger.

Mac
chuckled, helping you get the key into the front door. “I can stay, if you want?”. He blocked you between his body and the door, glazing
down in a loving way. “Help you shower and get into a warm bed, I will even throw in
some cuddles for free, possibly even a back massage. I’ve been told I’m
quite skilled with my hands”.

You stared up at Mac, resisting the
urge to laugh again for that took energy, something that the latest mission
kicked out of you. “And I know just how skilled you are with those amazing hands of yours, but I’m just
going to fall asleep once my head hits the pillow. However, that back
massage sounds very inviting, how about a rain check?”.

He smirked, planting a light feather kiss against your lips. “Deal. I’ll see you tomorrow”.

Waving goodbye, you softy called out. “Drive safe, please”.

He turned back around, giving you a grin. “Don’t I always?”.

You
didn’t enter the house until Mac was completely out of sight. Smiling,
it quickly disappeared when you saw a shadowy figure leaning on your
balcony threshold – Murdoc.

“Oh, how I do love a fruitful love
story. You and Angus sure are an adorable couple. He’s quite a catch, you
know if you’re into that whole tall, blonde and extremely nerdy sort of thing”.

Folding your arms over your chest, you gave Mrudoc a
piercing glare. “Do you ever know how to shut up?. What are you doing in
my house?”.

He ventured further into the living room, running his
fingers over the multiple photographs situated on the mantle. “Well, I
came to give you a chance to save your precious Macgyver”.

Eyeing
the secret spot you stashed away extra weapons, Murdoc chuckled and tapped his
foot on the loose floorboard. “You won’t be needing those, Y/N. I come
in peace and I have a very interesting deal to offer you”.

“What deal?”.

He
waved his hands in the air as he explained the proposition. “Quite
simple. I promise to not go through what I have planned for dear old
Macgyver, which will most likely leave him dead, but only and only if you hurt him instead”.
He sat down on the
chair, smiling at you like a happy child. “Sound fun?”.

Scoffing, you couldn’t believe the nerve of him. “You’re delusional if you think I’m going to hurt Mac”.

“Not
even to save his life?”.
Murdoc responded. He stood from his seating
position and walked over to you. “I’m a reasonable man, Y/N. Well, as
reasonable as a sociopath can get. I’ll tell you what, I’ll let you
sleep on it and you can give me your final answer tomorrow”.
With a blink of an eye, Murdoc vanished.

Climbing into bed
you convinced yourself it was sleep deprivation that was playing tricks
on your mind, but as the sun rose you saw a note laying on your pillow.

Tick-tock. Answer by 4:00 sharp or Macgyver pays the price – M

Rendered
speechless, you went into work with the words etched on the note. Not
being able to shake the terrible events of last night.

You saw Mac talking to Jack in the war room, he spotted you coming down the hallway. Calling out your name, you picked up the pace not wanting to face him. But, since Mac was taller it only took him a few steps to reach you.

“Hey, I called out to you, didn’t you hear me?”. He asked in a gentle manner. Avoiding his gaze, you made up some poor excuse to leave and dashed down another hallway.

“What was that about?”. Jack came up beside Mac, looking just as confused.

Mac shook his head, answering. “I don’t know”.

Shutting your office door, you’d wish you could reverse time. Back to you and Mac outside your front door or back too three nights ago where you and Mac were intertwined in his sheets. Slamming your hand, you winched in pain and opened your palm to reveal a cut from the open scissors that were laying on the desk. “Damn it!”.

“Y/N?”. Mac’s voice echoed and you spun around, hiding your injured hand behind your back.

“Mac, I didn’t hear you come in”.

He raised an eyebrow at your abrupt change in behaviour. “It shows, just like you also didn’t hear me in the hallway. What’s going on with you today?”.

“Nothing”. Sternly stating.

“It doesn’t feel like nothing. And what’s wrong with your hand?”. He quizzed, inching closer.

Heart rate increasing, you snapped back at him. “Nothing, Mac, just let it go!”. Softening your facial expression, you showed him the cut. He rushed over inspecting the injury.

Grabbing a few tissues, he wrapped them around your bleeding hand. “How did this happen?”. You explained the incident to Mac, causing him to give you a disapproving look with concern mixed in.

Once he bandaged up your hand, he gently pulled you into his chest. Feeling his touch calmed the aching pain in your heart. Having him hold you made all the irrelevant dilemmas slip away. How could you hurt him?. How could you break a man who’s only intention is to love you?. But, if you didn’t then Murdoc would and there was no telling what his plan for Mac was.

Pulling away, you quickly wiped away the tear before Mac saw. “Thank you, I really needed that”.

“I’ll give you all the hugs and kisses you need. I’m here for you, okay?”. Nodding, he kissed you on the forehead and left to go get debriefed on the next mission.

You looked at the time and there was just under an hour left until Murdoc required an answer.

Prior to leaving you walked by the war room to capture one last look of Mac before you destroyed the light in his eyes. You saw him laugh at whatever Jack mumbled and this time you didn’t stop the tear from falling. Getting yourself together, you made sure no one followed you to the side of the building. A dark black sedan was already waiting, opening the door Murdoc got out and seeing him again made you feel utterly sick.

“It’s exciting to know that Angus is in this very building, oh how I missed his face”.

Rolling your eyes, “I’ll do it”. Spiting those words out like venom.

Murdoc lit up like a Christmas tree, clapping his hands together. “I knew you’d make the right choice, Y/N. You have until midnight and don’t try any fancy agent tricks to warn him because I will find out”. He sped off and the next few hours were going to be your personal hell – hurting the one person you swore to love

Time was ticking away faster then you wanted and the ride to Mac’s place felt hollow – you felt hollow. Stepping into his bedroom, you took everything in. The bed, his desk, the photo he had of you sitting on his dresser and finally Mac himself. He was the definition of perfect, loyal, caring, sweet – the list goes on and on. He stared at you, causing everything else to slow down.

Taking two strides, you stood on your toes and kissed Mac like never before. His arms sneaked around you waist. You tried to make it last as long as you could, but the need for air outweighed your wish to hold onto him. When you faced Mac again he was smiling but that quickly faded when he saw you weren’t.

“Y/N?”. Stepping backwards, you struggled to say the words. Mac sensed your struggle and went to place his hand on yours. Stumbling back again, he didn’t understand what was happening. “Y/N?”.

“I can’t be with you, Mac”.

His mouth fell open, processing the dagger that you just stabbed in his heart. “Wait-what?”.

“I think it’s best if we break up”. Bluntly stating.

Mac refused to acknowledge any of those words. “This isn’t what you want, it can’t be”.

Taking all the neagtive emotion you were feeling towards Murdoc you aimed it at Mac to make your words more believable. “I don’t love you anymore, Mac”.

He frantically shook his head, eyes slowly filling up with tears. “No, no,
I know you don’t mean that”.

Dropping your keys, phone and jacket on the floor, you discarded your heels and went straight for the liquor cabinet. Pouring yourself a strong hint of vodka, you felt a familiar presence behind you. Clutching the glass you threw it at Murdoc.

“Now is that anyway to treat a guest?”. He glanced down at the shattered shards of glass around his feet.

“I broke his heart so you wouldn’t hurt him. I took your deal, now get the hell out of my house”. Yelling at him, who appeared unphased by your anger.

Murdoc
wickedly smiled. “It was a pleasure doing business with you, Y/N”. He
disappeared in the shadows for what you hoped would be the last time.

Gripping your shaky hands and trying to steady your heart
beat, the room begun to spin. Shutting your eyes to calm your body, you
re-opened them and the realization of what you just did caused you to break anything that was near your vicinity – vases, photo
frames, cups. You eventually slid down onto the floor, hugging your
knees,
when there was nothing left to break.

The room grew darker and colder, mirroring how you felt on the inside – cold as stone.
