Summary:It’s
been a rough year for you and Mac. Every road bump that could shake up a
marriage seemed to be laid out one after another. With your business
growing and Mac handling more missions then usual, there hasn’t been
time for any imitate moments causing a noticeable rift. And on top of
everything else Mac finds divorce papers which leads to the biggest road
bump yet.
How would you describe dating a secret government agent?. Rough.
How would you describe being married to one. Even rougher.
It’s been a unstable year for you and Mac. The road bumps started off
small – getting mad at each other for late nights, little arguments that
sparked a few hours of not speaking. Then like anything the bumps
increased in size, growing into hurdles that forced you and Mac to jump –
which lead to the guest room or even couch being used as a second bed
for Mac.
After a strenuous month apart due to a two hour long fight about commitment, trust and the strict demands of two very different jobs – agent and entrepreneur. You hoped smooth
sailing was on the horizon, however, the heavens weren’t on your side
and instead dropped another pesky road bump. This one you should of seen
coming, prepared for even, if only just a little bit. Yet, you kept
pushing it further out of your mind. Thinking that it was no big deal.
Expect, to Mac it was. More then he cared to admit.
Pouring a
glass of
Rosé
wine, you swirled it gently around, bringing the sweet liquor to your
lips. Mac hadn’t moved from the couch since he returned from work. He
took a quick power nap and awoke no more then 20 minutes ago. Flicking
the TV off, he rubbed his sleepy eyes and caught a glimpse of you.
“Isn’t it a bit too cold to be wearing just that?”.
You closed the
laptop lid, reminding yourself that emails could wait until morning. “Since when is me wearing lingerie and a robe been a problem?”.
His
eyes did a quick scan over your choice of sleepwear. Sucking in a tight
breath, “Since we haven’t been imitate in 4 months, and every time I
try you shut me down”. Telling him he was overthinking it too much,
without any sort of delay he disagreed. “Am I?. I want to show you how much I love you and it’s always excuse
after excuse, either you’re too tired or not in the mood”.
Dismissing
his attempt to place all the blame on you, you fired back. “What about
last week when I was in the mood and you brushed me off?”.
Approaching the edge of the counter, Mac’s eyes narrowed together. “I just came back from a 48 hour mission, I was exhausted”.
“So am I most days after my job”. Finishing the glass of wine, although
the argument Mac so abruptly started hindered you from enjoying the
beverage. Poking his board chest, “You have a hand, Mac, jerk yourself
off”.
Normally, he’d find that response amusing or come up with
his own smart-ass comment. Not today. Mac showed no signs of wanting to
engage in cheeky banter with you. “Are you seeing someone else?. Is that
why you’ve been so distant lately”.
“In case you didn’t notice
we’ve both been distant. And I can’t believe that just
come out of your mouth”. Maneuvering around, the small bench behind
you made it convenient for Mac to block you in, all he had to do was
shift his weight to the left.
You could feel his breath, that’s how close the proximity had become. “It’s
a fair question. I’m allowed to ask my wife if she’s been going behind
my back. Maybe you prefer to have another guy touch you”.
Lifting a hand in the air, Mac anticipated the move and his handy agent reflexes caught your wrist mid-air. “Don’t
ever accuse me of cheating on you, Angus. Maybe I should be the one
asking you that question”.
“I love you, I’m committed to only
you”. He closed the last bit of gap. His
fingers glided down your arm, past your elbow, until he reached the silk
fabric. “I’m sorry for accusing you
of being unfaithful. But, I’m going crazy over here. I have needs, ones
that my hands can’t satisfy. Baby, I need you”. Slipping the robe off your right shoulder, he kissed the exposed skin.”Tell me you need me too”. Slowly revealing more and more flesh from him to kiss, he discarded the material, bringing his lips to your ear.
“Tell me you want me to make love to you”.
“Mac". Uttering his name ever so softy to the point where it sounded almost inaudible.
“I’m serious, Y/N. I want-need to hear you say it”. The yearning in his voice couldn’t be missed or mistaken for anything other then an aching longing for you, for love. It matched perfectly with the tent forming in his jeans, another part of him that was also eagerly craving you. A simple yes would settle this entire ordeal, one word from you and at least one of the walls threatening to block this marriage from succeeding would be removed. To break the silence Mac toyed with the clasp on the bra, coaxing his head and displaying a sly smirk. As you were busy distracted by what his hand was doing above your waist, his other brushed along your inner thigh.
Breathless from just a few touches, you knew it was your bodies way of screaming to take the win and let Mac ravish you in nothing but sweet, sweet love. Knowing that Mac was dying to get out of the constrictions preventing him from springing free, you did the honors. “I want you to make love to me”.
There was no time to make it to the bedroom, so carefully laid out on the floor Mac tossed aside your underwear and the two of you got lost in the euphoric feeling of each other’s bodies.
When you awoke the floor was now a soft mattresses, leaning on your elbows Mac wasn’t laying beside you. Instead, he was fully dressed, back towards you. “Mac?”. Holding the sheets close to your body.
“Why did you agree to marry me?”. He faced you. Shoulders tense, eyes flickering between anger and confusion. “Why exchange vows with me?”.
Not understanding what had him all fired up, you grabbed the robe tying it around your frame. “Because I love you”.
He rudely scoffed, something you hadn’t seen him do before. Tossing papers onto the bed, you noticed one word written in big, bold letters – divorce. Shutting your eyes, he found the papers. Ones that you never intended to sign. Nonetheless, that fact wouldn’t matter to Mac. All he saw was you secretly had them drawn up and purposely hid them from him. “Forgive me if I don’t believe that after coming across these”.
Reaching out to comfort him, Mac flinched away. “I got them after we spent that month apart. Ask Riley, the papers mean nothing”.
“Do you think that in anyway makes me feel better?”.
Combing his fringe with his fingers, Mac’s chest rose up and down. “Why did we get married in the first place if a year into our marriage you’re thinking about divorcing me?”. As you moved your hands, the robe hiked up. Mac’s eyes darted to your legs, admiring every inch of skin on display. Shaking away the conflict between his heart and head, he slightly scrunched up his hand. “I’m not going to let you be the only one to decide if this marriage ends”.
“That’s not what I’m trying to do, Mac”.
It’s like your response left a sour taste in the room. He waved the papers in the air, “Then explain why you kept these divorce papers”. Wishing you could rewind back to a few hours before, this wasn’t how you envisioned or wanted married life with Mac to be like – fighting, making up, another argument, then having to go through it again.Lately, that was all the relationship consisted of and it reached an exhausting peak fairly quickly. “Answer me, Y/N. Why did you keep them?”.
“I forgot I had them!”. Crying out, praying that he believed you.
“Something like divorce papers is hard to forget, don’t you think?”.
Falling on the bed. “I’m human. I had doubts, just like you had at the start of our relationship. You kept pushing me away because you said it was too dangerous for me to love you. I forgave you for that, we worked past that. We can do it again”.
Staring down, his face appeared to soften and just when you thought there was hope of survival, Mac destroyed it with one stroke of a pen. “You want a divorce so
badly”. Signing his name on the dotted line, Mac threw the pen and gave
you a piercing stare. “Your wish just came true”. Turning on his heel,
the door slammed shut. With shaking hands you picked up the papers,
holding back the noticeable tears that wanted to spill out.
Staring
aimlessly at the glowing fire embers, your eyes felt dry and puffy. The
papers sat beside you, crinkled with the tears that won – ones that you
couldn’t hold back anymore. Mac had stormed out 6 hours ago. It was hard to determine where he went. Jack’s place seemed like the obvious choice, The Phoenix was another top contender and a drive to no destination in particular also made it on the list. However, the only place you wanted him to be was home, with you.
“What are you still doing here?”. Mac stood at the foot of the terrace stairs, baffled as to why you hadn’t left.
Standing up, wiping the nervous sweat off your palms on the back of your washed out dark blue jeans. “Please, just listen to what I have to say”.
Cautiously walking over, he stood a few feet away. “I did, I gave you what you wanted”.
“I never said I-”.
Mac interrupted, his voice hollow but yet strangely calm. “You can keep the ring and whatever you want to take from the house. If you need help with-”.
“Angus Macgyver!”. He didn’t falter when you shouted his full name in a desperate plea. “I don’t
want our marriage to end. After I got the papers drawn up, Riley
convinced me not to sign. Then we made up, remember?. It was like that night we couldn’t get enough of one another. On the couch, kitchen counter, bedroom, shower”. It almost looked like Mac was going to smile, but his facial expression stayed neutral. “And I know I never should of kept them, it was stuipd of me to even have them drawn up in the first place. But, I was confused and after what we said to each other during the fight, I thought that was it for us”. Turning to the last page, you extended it out to Mac. “You said to me that I shouldn’t be the only one to decide if our
marriage ends, and you were right. I know that I don’t want to give up, but if you do then”. Choking on the words, you swallowed the lump. “Then I’ll sign”.
He took it from your hands, thinking it over while looking
at his signature itched on the paper. Stepping forward, your heart
drummed against your chest. Mac whispered for you to make eye contact, when
eyes meet in the middle he threw the pages into the burning flames. His
lips grazed over yours, a teasing taste before deepening it with everything he had. “Til death do us part”.
