just wanted to note that op was one of the URLs listed as a russian state-sponsored disinformation account – this was a single sentence taken entirely out of context that garnered 200,000 notes, and i’d guess that the majority of the reblog chains weren’t accompanied by any corrections like the one above.

So now you all are just going around dragging up old posts and rewriting the context to make it seem like all of these black people were “Russians all along”. Now you can just hide your antiblackness behind “see? They might have been a Russian agent so anyone who has shared that same criticism has to be as well”. This is exactly why I can’t get behind how folks are handling this. They’re way to quick to believe it and are doing it with way too much relish for it to genuinely be about Russian intervention.

Its the red scare all over again. Anyone with a dissenting voice will be labeled a Russian spy. McCarthyism all over again and this definitely a tool, just like in the past, will be used against Black activists.

The Russian thing (on Tumblr & Twitter, and most likely all other platforms, so rage quitting Tumblr won’t do much unless you become a Luddite) is doing exactly what it’s supposed to: create division and make everyone suspect all sources.

And it’s succeeding.
